Our House
Our home was originally a stable within the grounds of the Moorlands Estate. It was converted into a home in 1990 but since then has been renovated to create a spacious, light flooded and contemporary 4 bedroom house, retaining many original features such as original open brick walls, oak beams and barn style doors.
We have lived in different countries over the years so the house is furnished with treasures we have gathered on our travels; a mix of contemporary and antique furniture, classic, eclectic and tasteful with no compromise on comfort. Every window offers a breath-taking view of countryside, our garden or the luscious forest.
Outdoors
Our home is nestled in nature in a small hamlet with 5 other families living nearby. Only 6 miles from the centre of York yet hidden down an unpaved lane and surrounded by fields and woodland, you will feel like you are in the remote countryside. It is tranquil and quiet, and you will awake to hear the birds singing and the rustle of leaves in the wind. When you arrive, you will find a large grassy area where children can play football and badminton while you sit in the shade of our large oak tree. Our back garden looks out over the neighbouring fields and the adjacent Moorlands Nature Reserve. There is a shallow pond and two seating areas for dining or relaxing. The sun moves in alignment with the layout of the house meaning that it shines on both sides of the house throughout the day.
We have a large trampoline and bicycles (2 for adults, 1 for a teen, 1 for a pre-teen) to use. It's a safe environment in which children can wander and play with a nearby stocked fishing pond for keen anglers, footpaths across the fields and quiet lanes for bike rides.
Kitchen and Living Room
The kitchen and living room are the heart of our home and adjoin with an archway creating a semi-open plan feel. With large format windows on both sides of each room, the space is bright and fresh. The kitchen has a central island, large dining table and all the mod cons you would expect (washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, microwave, juicer, Ninja blender).
The living room has extra-large comfortable sofas and armchairs for you to sink into with a good book, enjoy the silence and peaceful views or cosy up in front of our log burning fireplace after a day exploring York or the amazing attractions of Yorkshire on our doorstep. We have a digital piano for musicians to enjoy.
West Wing
A small corridor off the kitchen leads to the West Wing where you will find the family bathroom, master bedroom and guest room/play room.
The bathroom is stylish and contemporary with a large walk in shower and a luxurious standalone bath tub for a self-indulgent soak!
Wake up to dappled light and the sound of singing birds and rustling leaves, or spend the morning in bed reading the paper, after an amazing night’s sleep in our Emperor size bed with Tempur memory foam mattress. The master bedroom has an ensuite wc and walk in large shower.
At the end of the corridor is a peaceful guest room with a large reading chair and a sofa bed. We’ve added a memory foam topper to the mattress so this works as a proper comfortable double bed if needed.
East Wing
At the other end of the house, leading off the living room is a small hallway, two additional bedrooms, a bathroom and our home office.
Our children’s bedrooms have been built to maximise space (and the sense of adventure); both rooms have a ladder leading up to a mezzanine bed. One bedroom, with a single bed, has bifold doors leading directly into the back garden. The other bedroom, with a queen size bed leads directly through its large format window into the front garden and has beautiful views over our large Oak tree. Both have fitted wardrobes and plenty of toys/books/a keyboard to play with!
The bathroom is contemporary and compact with a walk in rain shower. The home office has internet connection, working space for two and a printer, with lovely views over the gardens.
The house has WiFi that can be accessed from all rooms except from the children’s bedrooms.
